About the Athens YWCO Camp for Girls
The Athens YWCO Camp for Girls is located on 150 acres in the Northeast Georgia Mountains. Gently rolling terrain, wooded trails, warm days and cool nights, mountains, and a 15-acre lake add up to the most beautiful of worlds for generations of young girls to come. Originally located in Athens and named Jennie Arnold Edwards, our camp has been in continuous operation since 1925. In 1987, due to urban growth, the YWCO moved Camp to our present location.

Campers stay in one of our eight cabins with 12 to 14 girls of similar ages and 3 to 4 counselors. The girls use a centrally located bathhouse - lovingly called “Paradise.” Other facilities include a dining hall, large horse park with 18-stall barn and riding rings, 15-acre lake, health center, and administration building.

We offer a wide range of activities including swimming, hiking, canoeing, drama, archery, pottery, games, sports, photography, horseback riding, overnight campouts, arts and crafts, and dance. Some of our campers’ favorite special events are the $1.98 “Beauty Pageant,” Dinosaur Egg Hunt, Hay Rides, Capture the Flag, 4th of July Celebration,  Luau, and our infamous end-of-session banquets.

As one would expect, the safety and the well-being of our campers is a top priority. Therefore, our staff participates in a week of pre-camp training to learn supervisory and teaching skills - as well as First Aid and CPR. We also train our lifeguards on-site through the American Red Cross. A registered nurse is on camp throughout the summer and a doctor is on call. In addition, we are located within 15 miles of a local hospital (Habersham County Medical Center).
